Vibern Farms - A dedicated grazing management operation, functioning so as to facilitate the maximization of cattle performance with a minimal impact upon the grazing base.
LOCATION: Approximately ten miles east of the Riding Mountain escarpment, or seven miles east of the Town of Kelwood, Manitoba. Farmstead located RM of Glenella.
Farm Size: 2598 deeded acres. All in one compact, contiguous land block, approximately two and a half miles long by two miles wide.
Vegetative Cover: All grass. Approximately 900 acres has been cropped at one time or another, 600 acres are good, grazable bush pasture and the remainder is open grassland.
Grazing System: The operation is divided into five distinct grazing paddocks. Cross fencing is designed to facilitate a TOGS grazing system Twice Over Grazing System. There are more than thirty miles of perimeter and cross fencing.
Water: Main yard well tested at 24 gallons per minute. Separate, but connected house well. Seven water bowls and two hydrants on approximately mile of buried pipe. Thirteen pasture watering locations, four of which act as watering hubs within a grazing system - three solar and one hydro off-site water developments, all with large capacity, overhead fed, watering troughs.
Buildings: Residence is 42 X 28 three bedroom bungalow with full cinder block basement. Heating is provided by a wood electric furnace with baseboard and wood stove back-up. House is well insulated and finished to exterior wrap. Siding to be completed to your personal tastes. Outbuildings include a partially insulated workshop, 40 X 80 Quonset (power/partial cement) and a 42 X 80 machine shed (no power /gravel floor). Cattle handling and calving facilities are located on cement, within the Quonset, with additional space dedicated to equipment/general farm storage. Working/pre-calving pens radiate from this location. Three water bowls and plank/rail fences in area close to Quonset.
Feedlot: Four large pens, all with water access and bedding mounds. Three have some shed coverage. Sheds and back (feeding) fence line need work. Feeding area is located behind the machine shed, within which two large capacity feed storage rooms have been constructed.
